A HELPING HAND

Compare two text versions and review the changes

Find a changed date, a missing sentence or a corrected paragraph. The comparison highlights differences in writing without changing either source or deciding which version is correct.

Put the versions in the right order

  1. Paste the earlier text into Before and the revised text into After, or import a TXT file on each side. One side may be empty to show every line as added or removed.
  2. Start with both comparison options unchecked. Run the comparison and keep unchanged lines visible for context.
  3. Use the previous and next difference controls to review changes. Removed words are struck through and added words are underlined; labels also identify the change type.

A small change that matters

Before: The meeting is on Tuesday at 14:00.
After: The meeting is on Thursday at 15:00.

The changed day and time need checking. The tool can highlight them, but cannot verify the appointment. A correct-looking comparison is not evidence that the revised facts are correct.

Choose what to ignore

Ignore case treats Hello and hello as equivalent. Accents and punctuation still matter: café and cafe are different.

Ignore spacing differences reduces runs of spaces and tabs to one space and ignores leading and trailing spacing on each line. It does not join words: some thing remains different from something. An added blank line still counts as a difference.

Windows and Unix line endings are treated as equivalent. A new line ending at the very end can still create an extra empty line. Displayed source text retains its original spelling and spacing even when an option treats it as equivalent.

Save or share the right view

Show only changed passages hides unchanged lines without recalculating the comparison. Line numbers still refer to the sources, and markers identify hidden lines.

Copy summary copies the counts, source names and selected options rather than the document text. If automatic clipboard access fails, use the fallback text field to copy manually.

Download the HTML report to keep a standalone file that opens in a browser without a connection. It contains the chosen view: the full view includes unchanged lines, while the filtered view leaves them out. Check that choice before sharing, and treat any included document text as part of the shared report.

The report is a snapshot, not a live link to your files. After changing either text or an option, compare again before exporting a new report. You can print the saved report with your browser’s usual print command.

Know the comparison limits

Matching is line by line, with word-level differences within changed lines when their size allows. A very long line may be highlighted as a whole. A moved paragraph can appear as a deletion followed by an addition; repeated lines can make matching ambiguous.

Each side accepts up to 100,000 characters and 2,000 lines; imported TXT files are limited to 1 MB. Larger text is rejected rather than silently shortened. Word documents, PDFs and word-processor layout are not supported.

Switching tools keeps the texts in this tab. Reloading or closing the page clears the working session. Keep the original documents separately.
