A HELPING HAND

Convert a DjVu book to PDF and check the result

Open a .djvu or .djv document in a regular PDF reader by converting selected pages into images inside a PDF. FilePico processes the source on your device; the result does not rebuild the book’s text layer.

Try a few pages first

  1. Open DjVu to PDF and select a self-contained DjVu file. Preview a page to check its orientation and whether the text is readable.
  2. Try a small range such as 1-3. Choose a quality setting appropriate for the size of the text and the output file size you can accept.
  3. Create and download the PDF. Open it at a comfortable zoom. If it looks suitable, convert the remaining pages in batches of no more than 100.

Why the PDF may be larger

The output contains page images. Quality changes their resolution, while the document itself also affects the file size. The converted PDF can be much larger than the original DjVu.

Selectable text, links and bookmarks are not reconstructed. No OCR is added. If you need to search for words throughout the book, this conversion alone will not provide that capability.

Example: convert a 240-page book

Batch 1: pages 1-100
Batch 2: pages 101-200
Batch 3: pages 201-240
Then merge the three PDFs in that order, if their sizes fit the merge tool’s limits.

The input limit is 40 MB and 1,000 pages. A per-page pixel limit and a 150 MB output limit also protect browser memory. These limits do not guarantee that every phone has enough memory for the largest accepted document.

Keep clearly named batches and inspect page boundaries after merging so that no range is duplicated or missing. On a slower device, smaller batches can be easier to handle.

Multi-file books and scanned spreads

DjVu documents spread over several files are not supported; use a self-contained file. Renaming another file type to .djvu will not convert it.

If a converted page shows an open book, use Continue with this PDF and then the scanned-spread splitting tool. Check the left/right order before downloading the final copy.

Retain the original DjVu. Download completed results before closing or reloading the tab or switching language.
