A HELPING HAND

iPhone photo rejected? Prepare a JPG from a HEIC

A form rejects your iPhone photo? Choose a compatible format, check its orientation and keep the original HEIC file.

Why a form may reject your photo

Some iPhone photos are saved as HEIC or HEIF files. A form or desktop application may only accept JPG or PNG. Renaming .heic to .jpg does not convert the file contents: you need to create a new image.

FilePico reads the photo on your device and prepares a copy. The original file stays unchanged. Support depends on the contents: some HEIF variants and damaged photos may be refused.

Try the sample, then your own photo

  1. Select Try a HEIC photo. This drawing made for FilePico is a real HEIC file; you can also download it and import it again.
  2. Keep JPG selected, convert and download your copy. Open it in your usual image viewer.
  3. For your own photos, choose HEIC or HEIF files. The iPhone photo picker may supply a JPG copy instead: select the original through Files if necessary.
  4. Check orientation, preview and colours. Choose PNG to avoid further lossy compression, then convert again.
Sample file: 480 × 320 pixels
JPG output: 480 × 320 pixels
PNG output: 480 × 320 pixels
Dimensions stay the same, except width and height swap when rotation requires it.

Choose a format and check the file size

JPG is often useful for submitting a photograph to a form. Quality controls compression: lowering it may reduce file size and fine detail. No target size is guaranteed. Check the actual download size against the form’s limit.

PNG avoids further lossy compression of the decoded pixels. It cannot restore lost detail and may produce a much larger file. HDR becomes a standard 8-bit image; unusual colour profiles may look different.

Other image tools reuse the prepared PNG copy in this tab. Original metadata, including location, is not copied. This does not remove an address or private information visible in the photograph itself. Keep your original if you need the camera metadata.

Convert a small batch and keep previous results

  1. Add up to ten photos, in one or several imports. Move or remove them to arrange the batch.
  2. Downloads have numbered filenames, so identical original names do not overwrite each other inside the ZIP. Download an individual image or the complete ZIP.
  3. Cancel HEIC reading stops the current photo and queued imports. Previously prepared photos and downloads stay available.
  4. After changing quality or output format, convert again. Your previous download remains available while the replacement is prepared.

Limits, Live Photos and privacy

Up to ten photos, 20 MB per file, 50 MB source files total, 24 million pixels and 12,000 pixels per side. A 48-megapixel photo exceeds this limit. Prepared images are limited to 100 MB; downloads to 150 MB. Large photos may be slow on phones.

Only still HEIC/HEIF photos supported by the local HEVC decoder are accepted. Files with several top-level images, sequences, AVIF and videos are refused. For a Live Photo, only its separate HEIC still can be converted: motion and sound are not exported.

The decoder loads from FilePico when HEIC reading is requested. Photos are not uploaded to a conversion server. Failed imports keep your existing batch. Download before closing, reloading or changing language.
