A HELPING HAND

Convert subtitles from SRT to VTT or VTT to SRT

Prepare subtitles for your player while keeping the text and timings.

Change format

  1. Import an SRT or VTT file, or paste its content. These are text subtitle files, not the video itself.
  2. Choose SRT or WebVTT as the output format.
  3. Prepare and review the result, then download the UTF-8 file. Test it with the video in your player.

Example: SRT comma, VTT decimal point

SRT: 00:00:01,500 --> 00:00:03,000
VTT: 00:00:01.500 --> 00:00:03.000
A WebVTT file starts with WEBVTT

What is kept or lost

Text and timings are preserved and cues are renumbered. Styles, positioning, regions, comments and custom identifiers are not transferred. VTT voice tags become speaker names in the text.

Format conversion does not translate sentences, recognise speech or resynchronise timings. For a constant offset, use Shift subtitle timing; to remove timestamps and get plain text, use the subtitle transcript tool.

Check and keep the original

Maximum 2 MB text and 20,000 cues. Check accents, line breaks and several cue start/end times in the downloaded file.

Keep the original if you need advanced formatting. Processing stays in the browser: download before closing or changing language.
