A HELPING HAND

Make a scanned PDF smaller for a form or email

A scanned document is too large to send? Create an image-based copy with lower resolution and JPEG quality. Always keep your original.

Choose compression

  1. Open Compress a scanned PDF in Reduce file size or Organise my PDFs. Import your PDF or try the sample scan.
  2. Start with Balanced. Gentle keeps more detail; Strong reduces resolution and quality further.
  3. Select Reduce PDF size, then compare file sizes and first-page previews.

Check before sending

Pages are recreated as JPEG images in a new PDF. Visible dimensions, orientation and order are kept. Selectable text, OCR, links, bookmarks, attachments and original metadata are not retained.

If this copy is larger, the original bytes are offered instead, including text and metadata. No target size is guaranteed.

Download and check every page in a PDF reader: small text, numbers, tables and colours. Switch to Gentle if details are hard to read. The tool preview only shows the first page.

Limits and local processing

PDFs without passwords: up to 20 MB and 50 pages. Forms and digital signatures are refused: use a flattened copy from your PDF reader and keep the original.

Gentle: 150 dpi and 90% JPEG. Balanced: 110 dpi and 75%. Strong: 75 dpi and 55%. Maximum 3,000 pixels per side, 6 million pixels per page, 120 million total and 64 MB output.

Pages are processed one at a time in your browser. Cancellation creates no partial file; a failed import or processing step keeps the last result. Download before closing or changing language.
