A HELPING HAND

Reduce SVG file size and keep an editable vector drawing

A logo or icon contains comments and blank lines? Compact its code while keeping an editable vector drawing.

Import and compare

  1. Open Reduce SVG file size in Reduce file size or Images and photos. Import an SVG, paste its code or try the sample drawing.
  2. Select Reduce SVG size. Compare the byte counts before and after, then check the preview.
  3. Download your SVG and open it in your usual application. Keep the original.

Conservative optimisation

The tool removes XML comments, the XML declaration and indentation outside text. Coordinates, colours, shapes, metadata, accessibility titles and whitespace inside text and styles are kept.

It does not simplify paths, round coordinates or remove IDs. Savings depend on the file; an already compact SVG may stay the same size. The output remains an SVG, without converting it to PNG or a ZIP archive.

Supported files and limits

Self-contained static UTF-8 SVGs up to 1 MB, 10,000 elements and 100 levels. Scripts, animations, foreignObject, external resources, DTD declarations and elements outside the SVG namespace are refused.

Internal references such as local gradients are accepted. Embedded images and external fonts are not supported. This is not a universal sanitiser for every SVG.

Your code is processed in this browser. The preview uses an image rather than inserting your SVG into the page. Download before closing or changing language.
