A HELPING HAND
Remove GPS location before sharing a photo
Remove GPS and EXIF information before sharing a photo. Check your cleaned copies and keep your original files.
What can travel inside a photo file
A photo file contains more than pixels. Depending on the camera, settings and applications used, it may also contain a capture date, phone or camera model, GPS position, author name or comment. Not every photo contains all of these details.
EXIF often stores camera information. XMP, IPTC, comments and additional PNG or WebP fields may also accompany the picture. This tool does not try to display your address or GPS coordinates. It creates a new copy from the visible image and removes ancillary blocks from the resulting file.
Try a fictional photo first
- Open the tool and choose Try the example. It is a synthetic image with fictional camera information.
- Choose Clean my photos. A thumbnail and download appear when the copy has been verified.
- Download and open the JPG. The picture is still there, with a generic filename. Your original photo stays on your device.
Input: fictional 120 × 80 JPG photo with EXIF data and a comment. Action: Clean my photos. Output: photo-001-without-metadata.jpg, 120 × 80 pixels. Embedded information and the original filename are not copied.
Prepare a batch for an online listing
- Add your JPG, PNG or static WebP photos. You can add more files later and remove any you do not want to process.
- Start cleaning. Files are processed one by one. Cancel cleaning stops after the current step. An incomplete batch does not replace the previous result.
- Download individual copies or choose Download all as ZIP. Names contain sequence numbers, even when several source files have the same name.
- If you change the batch, previous downloads stay available with a notice. Run cleaning again to update the copies and ZIP.
Check orientation, colours and file size
The browser decodes each photo and creates a new image in the same format. It applies the orientation it can read. A portrait photo may therefore have width and height swapped compared with the raw original dimensions while remaining visually upright. Always check your copy.
JPG and WebP are recompressed using a high quality setting. Fine details and file size can change. PNG keeps transparency, as does WebP when supported by the browser encoder. Colour profiles are not retained, so some colours may look different. This is neither target-size compression nor a byte-for-byte lossless copy.
Visible private details remain visible
Removing GPS information does not hide a face, number plate, readable address or recognisable location. If those details appear in the picture, use the masking tool on your copy before publishing. A watermark can add your name or logo afterwards; it does not replace metadata cleaning.
Cleaning does not guarantee anonymity or remove information already published elsewhere. Original files are unchanged. Check the exact file you intend to attach to your message or listing.
Formats, limits and saving your results
Up to 20 photos, 20 MB per file and 100 MB of source files in total. Each image must stay within 24 million pixels and 12,000 pixels per side. Downloads are limited to 150 MB. Animated PNG and WebP files are refused, along with incomplete or excessively complex structures.
iPhone HEIC files are not supported directly here: convert them to JPG or PNG with the HEIC converter first. Processing stays in your browser. Nothing is saved automatically. Download your copies before closing, reloading or changing language.
