A HELPING HAND

Remove HTML tags and get readable plain text

An email template or page snippet is full of markup? Extract its words, paragraphs and lists, then copy the text or download a TXT file.

Start with HTML code

  1. Open HTML to text in the Text category.
  2. Paste your HTML snippet into the first field. Try the example if you prefer not to use personal content.
  3. Select Extract text. The result appears in the second field.
<p>Hello &amp; welcome!</p>
<ul><li>First meeting</li><li>Second meeting</li></ul>

Check the extracted text

Tags disappear. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines, <br> becomes a line break, and lists keep bullets or numbers. Simple table cells are separated by a vertical bar.

Entities such as &amp;, &nbsp; or &#233; become &, a space or é. Links keep their visible text without their addresses. Images are neither loaded nor transcribed through OCR.

Scripts, styles, comments, metadata and embedded content are discarded. CSS styling and visual layout are not reproduced. Check and correct the result when the HTML is incomplete or unusual.

Copy or download a TXT file

  1. Select Copy text to paste the result into an email or document. If clipboard access is refused, the result is selected so you can copy it with your keyboard.
  2. Download as TXT creates a UTF-8 file, preserving accents and line breaks.
  3. After changing the HTML, extract again before copying or downloading. The example and Clear all ask before replacing existing content.

Your content stays on your device

Pasted HTML is never inserted into the page or executed. Markup is tokenised as text and entities are decoded after tags have been removed. No scripts or external resources from your snippet are loaded.

The tool accepts up to 200,000 HTML characters, 10,000 tags and 100 levels of lists or excluded containers. Overlong or complex input is reported.

Copy or download before closing, reloading or changing language. When you copy an already rendered web page, the clipboard often already contains text without tags.
