Add an intro image to a video

JPG/PNG/WebP image: 10 MiB, 16 million pixels. Video: 50 MiB, 1 minute, up to 1,920 px per side and 60 fps. Intro: 1 to 10 seconds.

On the first video import, the engine downloads about 32 MB. A recent computer is recommended; performance on physical phones has not been qualified.

Choose an image and a video to begin.

Sound starts after the chosen duration. Crossfade then blends the image over the start of the video for up to 0.5 seconds, without extending the MP4.

Formats and limits

MP4/MOV/M4V with H.264, WebM with VP8/VP9; standard 8-bit colour. HEVC, HDR, video transparency and offset tracks are rejected. Output: H.264 MP4 at 30 fps, same proportions; odd dimensions rounded down to an even pixel count. First audio track kept and re-encoded to stereo AAC; other tracks, subtitles and chapters are omitted. Maximum output: 64 MiB.

Steps, formats and limits

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your image and video, or try the example.
  2. Set the intro duration and check the framing.
  3. Create the MP4, check the beginning and sound, then download.

Will the image be stretched?

No. The whole image is centred, with black bars if proportions differ. The video keeps its proportions.

When does the sound start?

After the silent intro, at the start of the video. The first track is re-encoded to AAC; there is no added music, mixing or audio fade.

Is the quality identical?

Video is re-encoded to H.264 MP4 at 30 fps. Keep the original and check the result; this is not lossless joining.

Transition

Choose a direct cut, fade through black or crossfade. Fade through black darkens the end of the image and beginning of the video. Crossfade starts after the chosen intro time and overlaps the beginning of the video for up to 0.5 seconds. For clips shorter than one second, the fade is shortened. Total duration stays image + video; sound starts after the image duration, with no audio fade.
